Version 2 - Release Dec 30 2022
Transferred to new report format (webpage instead of PDF)
- Overall score changed from 91 to 92, based on changes in individual sections (Track Record, Impact Innovation, Wisdom)
- Question moved — “How efficiently does the solution leverage natural processes?” moved from Impact Innovation to Additional Questions to conform with new vetting report format (Impact Innovation score recalculated)
- Added question — “How significant are the known negative consequences (or trade-offs) of this solution?” to Wisdom section (Wisdom score recalculated).
- Updated “How many years has the organization been in operation?” score, since they are now more than 3 years old (Track Record score recalculated).
- Updated the mentions of cleaning water hyacinth. Plastic Fischer is actively working on finding a solution for water hyacinth (an invasive weed that harms river ecosystems, which also happens to get caught by trash barriers), but hasn’t yet found a financially-sustainable way to remove and manage it.
- Updated statistic “80% of ocean plastic waste enters the oceans via less than 2,000 rivers and coastlines“ — source articles (here and here) had been misinterpreted. Should be “80% of all ocean plastic that enters the ocean via rivers comes from <2000 rivers”.
- Updated 3rd party verification provider from CleanHub to Empower (they switched providers in 2022)
- Updated Plastic Fischer’s “Impact to date” numbers
- Added ‘Snapshot’ sections that are new in the updated report format (expert consensus, time to realize impact, key drawbacks, fund usage)
